Under noted Terrier handler Michael Kemp, Halcar Smooths win a group 4 in the
Eukanuba Breeder's Stakes competition at the Canfield, OH cluster.
The Halcar prefix was founded over 50 years ago by Harold and Carol Wainwright. The first breed to carry the Halcar name though was Boxers. After a few short years Harold and Carol decided that Boxers were not the breed for them.
The first Wire, AM/CAN Ch. Halcar Cracker Jack,C.D., C.D.X., C.G., was purchased in 1963 and was the first Fox Terrier to have 3 separate titles. The American Fox Terrier Club now has a versatility award named for him. The first Smooth was purchased over 40 years ago.
Since then Halcar has bred or owned over 100 champions of both Smooth and Wire. Several of the Halcar smooths and wires hold titles in Field, Obedience and/or Agility.
The tradition of breeding versatile, quality dogs is being carried on by Hal & Carol's daughters, Jean Finn (Wires) and Anne Beckwith (Smooths).
